Joan Blackwood

I have had a lifelong interest in drawing and I took some art classes in my youth. In my early adult years other interests and family filled my life, but when I returned to Vancouver in 1999 I decided to start drawing and painting again.

My current inspiration comes from B.C. landscapes, some paintings are realistic and others are interpretative or impressionistic in style. I enjoy painting with vivid colours and contrasting light. Recently I have started to explore the potential impact of global warming on B.C. landscapes. Hopefully my imagination exceeds reality.

In 2001 I became a member of the Vancouver Art Guild. Since 1999 I have taken a number of drawing, pastel and acrylic painting classes from Fran Alley, various instructors from the Vancouver Academy of Art and the Canadian Federation of Artists, and most recently from Cheryl Fortier.

I have participated in the VAG Winter Salon every year since 2001. I have also shown my work in the VAG Group Show at the Vancouver Public Library in 2002 and in other VAG group shows at various locations around Vancouver from 2002 to the present.
