I have been drawing and painting since I was a young girl. Between the ages of eight and sixteen I studied in Los Angeles with Mrs. Abbey who was my most influential teacher.
These recent works are part of my finding a zest for life again. I wanted to show joyful aspects of life, full of warmth and colour. Patterns have always been an important part of my work; here they are seen in landscapes or on tablecloths.
I may be attracted to a subject by the light, the patterns, the colours or the composition. In my work I try to show the essence of what originally enthralled me. I am more concerned with this essence than with photographic realism. I attempt to create an immediacy in my work so that you will feel my attraction to the subject.
My hope is that in viewing these paintings you will feel joy and wonder at everyday aspects of life.
