BIO
Audrey was born in Dublin, Ireland and was educated in Dublin, London, Cairo and Vancouver. She holds a diploma in Education from London University and B.Ed. and M.Ed. from UBC. After living and working in Ireland, England and Egypt she came to Canada and worked as a teacher and school administrator in Vancouver. Living in some of the great cities of the world, she was fortunate to be exposed to different cultures and art forms. After retirement she happily returned to her early ambition to draw and paint and has taken many courses with many talented artists and teachers and at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. She shows regularly in the Vancouver Art Guild's Winter Salon and in the University Women's Club members' yearly exhibition, as well as occasionally at other venues. Her work is represented in private collections in England and Canada.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Life experiences have made me appreciate the force and continuity of life. Many of my paintings are of rural villages or ancient architecture - reminders of the generations of simple lives lived there. I also enjoy portraying the amazing beautyand power of nature, making large paintings of velvety fragile flowers either singly or in still life arrangements. My preferred media are watercolours and acrylics.
Much of my joy in painting comes from the actual process and the total involvement. Although I prefer to paint from life, many paintings are from sketches and photographs taken on location on my personal travels and on workshops abroad. Closer to home, my garden is a great source of inspiration and I also photograph there. I particularly enjoy meeting new challenges, gaining new skills and learning with other members of the Guild.
