I first remember the joy of ‘doing art’ at age 9. Recapturing this childhood pleasure, however, was postponed until I retired in 1997. That summer I lived with two watercolor artists from Turkey who undoubtedly influenced my choice of medium. I then studied art with Fran Alley, and voila… in 2001, became one of the inaugural members of the Vancouver Art Guild. I currently study with Vancouver artist, Cheryl Fortier, and attend workshops given by other visual artists. My paintings have been exhibited and sold in Vancouver Art Guild Shows since 2000 and are occasionally on display with the Guild in other venues around Vancouver.

I work mainly in water colour and sometimes, pen and ink. Favorite subjects are still lifes and renditions of my travel photos. In addition to personal travels in Europe, Mexico, China, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, and Jordan, I have explored parts of Mexico, France, Italy, Spain and BC while on painting trips with members of the Vancouver Art Guild. Creating a picture with a camera is another passion; staying on top of new technology, quite another matter.
BIOGRAPHY
Joslin is a native Vancouverite; she received her BA from UBC with a major in Sociology and Criminology.
Her career started with the Vancouver Park Board in Community Centres. Early years as a programmer provided an opportunity to teach elementary classes in ceramics, copper tooling, metal enameling, leatherwork and mosaics. In 1963 she became a Centre Coordinator and her ‘playing days’ were over. Six years later, she transferred to the City’s then newly established Social Planning Department as a Local Area Planner. Upon the birth of her second child she resigned but returned later as a Recreation Manager to work another 20 years for the Vancouver Park Board.
She now basks in a life of retirement… free to pursue challenges, interests, travel and spend time with family and friends. She maintains a contact with the Park Board through volunteer activity. She enjoys participating with the Vancouver Art Guild because it provides education and support for members during the various stages of their artistic development.
