I began painting as an adult, motivated by my love of flowers and a desire to paint watercolour florals. Later, I broadened my subject matter to include landscape and started working in acrylic. Today, much of my art is inspired by the dramatic beauty of the Pacific Northwest. In my work, I try to convey the grandeur of our mountains, oceans and skies and am especially fascinated by the effects of light on the landscape.
I have benefited greatly from classes with Hele Kowallek, Fran Alley, Janice Robertson, Lisa Birke and Cheryl Fortier as well as workshops with other accomplished artists including Ron Ranson and Tony Couch. Over the years, I have been fortunate to combine my interest in art with travel, having studied at West Dean College in England and the Fuji Studios in Florence, and participated in a plein air painting workshop in Venice.
In 2002, I joined the Vancouver Art Guild. That year, I exhibited my work for the first time in the Guild's November Salon and in the University Women's Club of Vancouver's Members' Show in the Gallery at Hycroft. Since then, I have participated in these two annual shows, as well as in a few other small group shows in Vancouver.
