Every July and August, the Guild organizes a Summer Painting Schedule for Plein Air excursions. In past years we explored many locations outside Vancouver.
Summer Painting 2015: Wednesdays from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Wed 08 July: Hycroft Mansion at 1489 McRae Ave., Vancouver
Audrey has booked us into Hycroft to paint the Gardens (and the Terrace, so if it rains we will stay dry). The only other thing happening that day will be a Chamber Music Concert in the Drawing Room, so we may find ourselves serenaded on the terrace. We can pay for drinks (tea, coffee, wine, juice) and lunch if we wish. Access to water and washrooms. Officially the parking lot is only for members but Audrey says it is “possible to cheat” or park on the Crescent.
Wed 22 July : Museum of Anthropology at 6393 NW Marine Dr, Vancouver
The MOA parking on the north side of Marine Drive is buses only now. The closest parking is the Rose Garden Parkade: $1.75 per hour, carpooling is recommended. Cafe and washrooms inside to the right. Meet in front of the Museum at 10am. Paint behind the building, totem poles, Cecil Green can be seen from the top of the berm.
Wed 05 August: Darlene’s Garden at 3448 West 1st Ave., Vancouver
Darlene has invited us to paint in her garden. Park on the street.
Wed 19 August: Iona Regional Park, Vancouver
To get to Iona Beach, drive south on Granville Street and stay to the left, heading towards Richmond and the Airport by crossing the Arthur Lang Bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn right at the first traffic light at Grauer Road. Continue straight as Grauer Road becomes Ferguson Road and then Iona Island Causeway. The road will veer to the right at the far end of the airport and then takes a sharp left before reaching the Parking Lot. Parking: free. Washrooms in the park. Meet at 10am in the parking lot . There are log booms, views of Pt Grey, the north shore and the Gulf of Georgia. The lagoon is filled with waterfowl
